PAHO/WHO Hosts Annual Meeting on measles and Rubella Elimination
Mexico City, November 5, 2025 – The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in coordination with the Ministry of health, inaugurated the V Annual Meeting of the Regional Commission for Monitoring and Reverification of the Elimination of Measles and Rubella on November 4 at the facilities of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS).
During the inauguration,Samantha Gaertner,general director of the National Centre for Child and Adolescent Health (CeNSIA),representing the Undersecretary of Health Policies and Population Wellbeing,Ramiro López Elizalde,recognized PAHO/WHO and the Government of Canada,”for their valuable support to this regional effort in favor of the sustained elimination of measles,rubella and congenital rubella syndrome. The review of the National reports not only allows us to measure progress, but also to learn collectively and align efforts within a framework of regional collaboration.”
“Participating in this fifth annual meeting of the Regional monitoring and Reverification commission represents an possibility to reaffirm our commitment to public health and international cooperation.The work of this Commission has been key to preserving the achievements made in the elimination of measles and rubella in the region, as well as to identify and promptly address the challenges that we face today in terms of vaccination coverage, epidemiological surveillance and response to outbreaks,” she said.
