Windows 11 24H2 Update: A Major Bug Warning for Affected Users
Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update rolled out with numerous new features, but it also introduced a significant bug that could prevent devices from receiving security updates.
## The Issue: Installation Media Block
Microsoft has issued a warning about a specific issue affecting the Windows 11 24H2 update released between October 8 and November 12. The problem lies in the installation media used for installing these updates.
The bug only impacts users who install Windows 11 from a USB drive or CD, a common practice for business setups, education environments, and enthusiasts who prefer to manually install the operating system.
When media created with the October or November 2024 security updates is used to install Windows 11, it can prevent the device from installing future security updates.
## Microsoft’s Solution: Reinstall with Updated Media
To resolve this issue, Microsoft recommends that affected users re-create their Windows 11 installation media with the December 2024 patch and reinstall the operating system.
While Microsoft is actively working on a permanent fix, there is currently no timeframe for its availability.
## A Litany of Other Bugs
The Windows 11 24H2 update has also encountered other bugs and issues, including:
* Audio problems on Dirac devices
* Outlook failure to launch when using outdated Google Workspace sync
* Auto HDR causing game freezes and inaccurate colors
* Compatibility issues with popular Ubisoft titles like Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and others
