Shiffrin Dominates First Round of Flachau World Cup Slalom

Flachau, Austria – January 13, 2026 – American skiing sensation Mikaela Shiffrin established a commanding lead after the first round of the night slalom World Cup event in Flachau, Austria. The five-time event winner showcased her technical prowess, setting a blistering pace that puts her in prime position to secure her sixth slalom victory of the season.

Shiffrin completed the course with a time that placed her 19 hundredths of a second ahead of fellow American, Paula Moltzanova. Austria’s Katharina Truppeová rounded out the provisional podium, trailing Shiffrin by 35 hundredths of a second.

The competition saw strong performances from Swiss skiers as well, with Camille Rastová and Wendy Holdenerová securing positions just behind the leading trio. Rastová, the recent winner at Kranjska Gora, finished fourth, 78 hundredths behind Shiffrin.

Shiffrin’s prosperous run was characterized by a strong start and a decisive acceleration in the lower section of the course, allowing her to build a notable advantage over her competitors. Her ability to maintain rhythm and avoid hesitation proved crucial in navigating the challenging slalom course.

Sadly, Slovakia was not represented in this competition.

The second and final round of the Flachau World Cup slalom is scheduled to commence at 20:45 local time, where Shiffrin will aim to solidify her lead and claim another victory.
