Cold Open

This week’s cold Open tackled the NYC Mayoral race. It’s packed with jokes that’ll really land with New Yorkers. The race has gotten national attention, but some of the humor – like references to Hudson Yards – feels very local. The sketch begins with a New York 1 debate featuring “two viable candidates and one classic New york nut.” Teller played disgraced former governor andrew Cuomo. Ramy Youssef portrayed democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, and Shane Gillis was republican Curtis sliwa.

The casting choices are interesting. Not using regular cast members could make future mayoral sketches tricky. Though, Kam Patterson made a cameo as current NYC mayor Eric Adams (Devon Walker previously played the role).james Austin Johnson also showed up as Donald Trump.

Monologue

Teller talked about dressing up as SNL characters for Halloween and losing his home in the Palisades Fire. The monologue was short, and honestly, that’s probably a good thing. He seemed a little nervous, which made it feel a bit choppy.

Hungover Halloween Game Show

SNL Halloween sketches are always a highlight, and it was great they squeezed one in the day after Halloween.
