Milo Ventimiglia’s Malibu Home Destroyed in Palisades Fire
This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia tragically lost his Malibu home in the ongoing Palisades Fire. The actor shared the heartbreaking news during an interview with CBS News on Thursday night. Ventimiglia and his wife, Jarah Mariano, who is nine months pregnant, were forced to evacuate their home on Tuesday, January 7th, as the fire rapidly spread.
The couple watched helplessly from afar as the flames consumed their property through security cameras. At the time of the interview, the fire had already scorched nearly 20,000 acres of land, highlighting the devastating impact of the blaze.
A Heartbreaking Loss
While Ventimiglia and Mariano were able to salvage some belongings, the fire claimed their newly finished nursery, leaving behind a heartbreaking reminder of the irreplaceable memories they held dear.
Visiting the charred remains of his home, Ventimiglia confessed to feeling a profound sense of grief. “It’s heavy,” he shared, fighting back tears. “You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and whatnot, and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks.”
Accepting the Loss
Ventimiglia spoke about the shock and disbelief he felt witnessing the live footage of his home burning. However, he acknowledged the fleeting nature of material possessions and focused on the most important things in life: his wife, their unborn child, and their dog. “We’ve got good friends and we got good people we’re working with and we’ll make do,” he stated with resilience. “Wife and baby and dog, most important.”
Life Imitating Art
This tragedy felt all too familiar for Ventimiglia, who portrayed Jack Pearson on the NBC drama “This Is Us.” In a poignant storyline, Jack heroically rescued his family from a house fire but tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation. “It’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” Ventimiglia admitted during the CBS interview. His experience on set filming the fire episode instilled in him a deep awareness of the devastating impact of these events.
After the “This Is Us” fire episode aired in 2018, Ventimiglia partnered with Duracell to promote fire safety awareness. He has already expressed his intention to continue advocating for wildfire safety measures in the wake of his own personal loss.
