Ministry of Religion Building & Rp500T Funds Management

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Religion will build a 40 -storey building on the former British Embassy, in the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area, Central Jakarta.

This was revealed by the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar in the launch of the Islamic Education Waqf Movement Directorate General of Islamic Education in the Ministry of Religion, in Gambir, Central Jakarta, Saturday (16/8/2025).

Initially, Nasaruddin said that the potential management of people’s funds reached Rp 500 trillion if managed and organized professionally and accountably to President Prabowo Subianto.

“Wow, it was amazing, Mr. Nasaruddin,” Nasaruddin said, imitating Prabowo’s words.

Prabowo then asked why management with a large budget could not be realized until now.

Nasaruddin said there were several causes.

First, the government does not organize well.

Second, literacy of religious communities in Indonesia related to waqf is still lacking.

Then, the waqf governance is very weak.

Another problem is the legal certainty of waqf land that cannot be economically empowered because the act has not been completed, the waqf has not been completed, and also the lack of professionalism of the nazir.

“Well, if all of this is we empower, Mr. President, we collect the funds of the people of Rp 500 trillion per year,” said Nasaruddin.

Hearing Nasaruddin’s explanation, Prabowo was said to ask the office of the managers of the current people’s funds available, for example the Amil Zakat National Agency for the National Alms (BAZNAS).

Nasaruddin said that currently Baznas, then the Indonesian Waqf Agency (BWI), and institutions related to the management of the people’s funds are still scattered.

He described the mature management model such as in Malaysia, which has a special building for the office of the Fund Management Agency.

“What if we are looking for a strategic place to raise that much funds,” Nasaruddin said, imitating Prabowo.
