Wild Bolster Offense with Acquisition of Michael McCarron from Predators
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild have added forward Michael McCarron to their roster, acquiring him from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, the team announced Tuesday. The move aims to strengthen the Wild’s center position and improve their faceoff capabilities.
McCarron’s Profile
McCarron, 30, has recorded 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 59 games with Nashville this season, along with 73 penalty minutes and a 52.8% faceoff win rate (428 of 811 attempts). He currently leads the Predators and ranks tied for 17th in the NHL with a career-high 165 hits.
The 6-foot-6, 232-pound forward has appeared in 361 career NHL games across nine seasons with the Montreal Canadiens (2015-18) and Nashville (2020-26), totaling 74 points (33 goals, 41 assists) and 495 penalty minutes. He has also played in nine career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Montreal (2017) and Nashville (2022, 2024).
McCarron’s international experience includes representing the United States at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, where he helped the team win a gold medal, recording two points (one goal, one assist) in the tournament.
AHL and OHL Background
Prior to his NHL career, McCarron spent seven seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the St. John’s IceCaps (2015-17), Laval Rocket (2017-20), and Milwaukee Admirals (2019-23), amassing 141 points (58 goals, 83 assists) in 262 games. He also has 17 Calder Cup Playoff games under his belt with Milwaukee (2023) and St. John’s (2017).
McCarron’s junior career included two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Oshawa Generals (2013-15), where he won the 2015 Memorial Cup and OHL championship, earning a spot on the 2015 Memorial Cup All-Star Team. He was originally drafted by Montreal in the first round (25th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Wild’s Recent Moves and Upcoming Schedule
This acquisition marks the second addition to the Wild’s roster in as many days, following the claiming of forward Robby Fabbri off waivers from St. Louis. The Wild previously made a significant trade in December, acquiring defenseman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver.
