Minnesota Wild Claims Cameron Crotty Off Waivers
The Minnesota Wild claimed defenceman Cameron Crotty off waivers from the Ottawa Senators, bringing the 27-year-old blueliner back for a second stint with the organization. Crotty heads to Minnesota as the team looks for defensive depth following an undisclosed injury to captain Jared Spurgeon. The Wild (9-3-2) hold the best record in the Central Division, tied with the Edmonton Oilers for first place in the Western Conference.
Ottawa Senators Roster Shuffles and Thomas Chabot Return
Crotty was placed on waivers by Ottawa on Wednesday after appearing in three of the team’s first 13 games this season without recording a point. The transaction coincided with Ottawa preparing to dress its full complement of defencemen for the first time this season, with Thomas Chabot returning to the lineup against the Los Angeles Kings after missing time since suffering an upper-body injury against the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 18. Chabot rejoins a defensive group featuring Jake Sanderson, Artem Zub, Chabot, Jordan Spence, Tyler Kleven and Nick Matinpalo, while Carter Yakemchuk serves as a healthy scratch.
Warren Foegele Sidelined and Scoring Search Continues
In addition to the roster moves on the blue line, Ottawa head coach Travis Green announced that forward Warren Foegele will miss an extended period after sustaining a knee-on-knee hit from Golden Knights defenceman Jeremy Lauzon during the loss. Foegele has recorded one goal and four points across 13 games this season while averaging 12:10 of ice time. Senators general manager Steve Staios was already shopping for scoring help prior to Foegele’s injury, as the team ranks 21st in the NHL with an average of 2.85 goals per game during an 8-5-0 start. Ottawa is also playing without off-season addition William Eklund, who is expected to remain sidelined into the new year following ankle surgery.
