Minnesota Wild Recall David Špaček from Iowa Wild
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild announced today that they have recalled defenseman David Špaček from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). The recall was made on February 21, 2026.
Špaček’s Season and Career Highlights
Špaček, 23, has appeared in two games for the Wild this season, making his NHL debut on January 15 against the Winnipeg Jets. In 37 games with the Iowa Wild this season, the 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman has recorded 20 points (4 goals and 16 assists), 66 shots, and 10 penalty minutes. He currently leads the Iowa Wild in assists and paces the team’s defensemen in both points and shots.
During the 2024-25 season, Špaček played 72 games for Iowa, registering 31 points (4 goals and 27 assists), 31 penalty minutes, and 117 shots. He led the team with 18 power play assists, ranked second in overall assists, and was the leading scorer among Iowa’s defensemen.
Over three AHL seasons (2023-2026), Špaček has accumulated 63 points (11 goals and 52 assists) in 170 games, along with 62 penalty minutes and 256 shots.
International Play
Špaček recently represented Czechia at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic games, skating in five games and contributing one assist and four shots on goal. He has too represented his country in multiple international competitions, including the 2025 IIHF World Championship (two assists in eight games) and the 2024 IIHF World Championship, where he helped Czechia secure a gold medal with five assists in 10 games. He also earned a silver medal with Czechia at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Tournament, recording eight points (3 goals and 5 assists) in seven games.

Špaček was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft and wears jersey number 82 for the Wild.
