Facing Fiery Criticism, TN CM MK Stalin Responds to Actor-Politician Vijay’s Barbs

Chennai: The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is heating up, with fiery exchanges erupting between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and actor-politician Vijay’s new party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Chief Minister MK Stalin, known for his cool demeanor, fired back at the “new parties” aiming to crush the DMK, saying, “Long live those who chide us.”

Mr. Stalin’s statement came in response to Vijay’s critical remarks targeting the DMK on various issues, including the sale of liquor and law and order. While he didn’t directly name Vijay or TVK, the context was clear. The Chief Minister, citing the words of DMK icon C.N. Annadurai, stated, “Long live those who chide us” and emphasized the DMK’s dedication to serving the public’s best interests.

Intensifying Battle for Tamil Nadu

The clash underscores the intense competition shaping up in Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the 2026 state Assembly elections. The DMK, led by Stalin, is facing a formidable challenge from Vijay’s TVK, which has gained significant traction among a wide range of voters.

Vijay’s TVK has already made headlines for its aggressive stance against the DMK, accusing it of corruption and failing to meet the needs of the people. The party has also criticized the BJP-led central government on various issues, including NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for medical courses.

Media Allegations and Accusations

Adding fuel to the fire, Mr. Stalin accused “a few media” publications of misrepresenting the current flooding situation in Chennai by using old images from last year’s devastating floods. He alleged that this tactic was intended to harm the DMK’s image and alleged media bias against his party.

The TVK, on the other hand, has condemned the DMK’s policies, accusing them of failing to address crucial issues like the sale of liquor and concerns over law and order. Their criticism has resonated with sections of the population who feel let down by the current government.

DMK and AIADMK Response

Both the DMK and its long-time rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), have dismissed Vijay’s TVK as a “copycat” and a threat to the established Dravidian politics in Tamil Nadu. The Congress, a key ally of the DMK at the state and national levels, has distanced itself from any potential alliance with Vijay’s party.

The political battle in Tamil Nadu remains fiercely contested, with each party vying for the support of voters. The success of Vijay’s TVK will hinge on its ability to mobilize the masses, articulate clear policies, and effectively challenge the entrenched powers in the state.
