Louvre to Undergo Grand Transformation: New Home for Mona Lisa and Beyond

Paris – Get ready for the Louvre like never before! French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a sweeping renovation project for the world-renowned museum, promising a revitalized experience for visitors.

Dubbed “Louvre New Renaissance,” the ambitious plan will see the iconic museum expand and undergo a thorough restoration. A highlight of the project is the creation of a dedicated exhibition space for Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, the “Mona Lisa.” This new, purpose-built gallery will showcase the painting in a way that truly honors its cultural significance and allows visitors to fully appreciate its beauty.

But the changes go beyond the “Mona Lisa.” The Louvre will also boast a brand-new entrance, designed to streamline visitor flow and alleviate congestion. The existing entrance beneath the iconic glass pyramid, which was built for four million visitors annually, will be completely redesigned and transformed into new exhibition spaces.

Adding to the transformation, the Louvre is addressing issues like water damage, outdated infrastructure, and fluctuating temperatures – all of which threaten the preservation of priceless artworks. These renovations are essential for ensuring the longevity of the museum’s masterpieces and creating a more comfortable environment for viewers.

This major undertaking, estimated to cost several million euros, is scheduled for completion by 2031. To fund this extensive renovation, the Louvre will rely on a combination of its own revenue, donations, and an increase in ticket prices. Starting in January 2026, non-European visitors will face higher admission fees, although the exact amount has not yet been disclosed.

The Louvre’s commitment to preservation alongside adaptation ensures its continued place as a global center of art and culture. "Louvre New Renaissance" promises to be a landmark event in the museum’s history, offering visitors an even more exciting and immersive experience.
