The Monarch Lounge at Hilton Milwaukee: A Historic Destination for Relaxation and Socializing Nestled within the Hilton Milwaukee, the Monarch Lounge stands as a testament to the city’s rich architectural heritage and evolving hospitality scene. Located in the upper lobby of the Hilton Milwaukee at 509 W. Wisconsin Ave., this upscale lounge offers patrons a refined space to unwind, work, or socialize in an atmosphere inspired by the hotel’s original 1920s art-deco design. Originally part of the Monarch Ballroom when the Schroeder Hotel opened in 1927, the space was transformed into the Monarch Lounge following a 2012 renovation. A subsequent update completed at the end of 2025 refreshed the interior with a soft cream and coffee brown color scheme, new carpeting and furniture, while preserving key historic elements including the original stone-and-metal fireplace, crystal chandeliers, marble accents and intricate gilding. The bar itself is crafted from onyx and features subtle under-surface lighting. The Monarch Lounge operates with seasonal hours: closed on Sundays and Mondays, open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and extending service on Fridays and Saturdays from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with live music featured from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM on both weekend evenings. The lounge welcomes both hotel guests and members of the public, providing an accessible venue for casual visits or special occasions. Patrons can enjoy a rotating seasonal menu that includes craft cocktails, an extensive wine list, and local beer selections. Notable offerings have included an orange chocolate martini, raspberry and lemon press, Monarch Manhattan, and the Sixth Sense cocktail—highlighting Roku Gin, whose name translates to “six” in Japanese. The lounge also hosts themed events such as Kentucky Derby celebrations, featuring bourbon tastings, buffet access, and specialty cocktails. As a blend of historic preservation and modern hospitality, the Monarch Lounge continues to serve as a distinguished destination in downtown Milwaukee, reflecting both the enduring legacy of the Hilton Milwaukee and the city’s vibrant social culture.
