OnePlay‘s “Mony” Wins top Prize at Primetime Killer Festival

The video library of OnePlay has been awarded the top prize at the Brno-based Primetime Killer festival for the best series from Central and Eastern Europe. The jury selected “Mony” from a field of six nominated titles. Additionally, the Estonian-Finnish web series Kalamaja Blues took home the Quick Killer Award for Best Short Story. The winners were announced Saturday evening.

Directed by Zuzana Kirchnerová,the mini-series focuses on the life of Brno prose writer Simon Mony (1967-2011). The series stars Tereza Ramba in the lead role, alongside Igor Orozovič, Kryštof Hádek, Klára Melíšková, and Václav Kopta. According to juror Victoria Elmucioglu, the series offers “a gentle and sensitive rendition of Simon Mony…based on her creative genius and the tragic fate of her life. She reveals the relationship of artists to the real experience she inspires, and she also touches the complex relations between men and women at present.”

The series portrays Mony as a relatable figure – an ordinary mother of three who yearned for romantic love and a traditional family, mirroring the desires of her readership. Her honest portrayal of relationships, laced with sarcasm and humor, resonated with many. However, the pursuit of passionate love ultimately led to a tragic outcome when a relationship with another man shattered the idyllic life she had built.

Festival Director Kamila Zlatušková noted that this marks only the second time in the festival’s eight-year history that a domestic production has won the top prize. The first was Markovic: Hojer, also produced by OnePlay. As of yet, OnePlay has not announced a premiere date for “Mony.”
