Louis Mulcahy’s ‘Lisbeth – New & Selected Poems’ Captures Loss and Legacy
Irish poet and potter Louis Mulcahy’s latest collection, Lisbeth – New & Selected Poems, published in May 2024 by Concerto Books, is a poignant tribute to his late wife, Lisbeth Mulcahy, who passed away in March 2023. The work explores themes of loss, memory, and the enduring power of love through revisited poems and new reflections on their life together.
A Personal and Poignant Collection
The collection arose from Mulcahy’s desire to discover solace and meaning in his past work following his wife’s death. He discovered a recurring presence of Lisbeth throughout his previous writings, realizing the depth of her influence on his life and creative output. “The number of references to Lisbeth and our lives together surprised me. I had no idea that I was so fixated on her, and the extent to which she permeated my every living thought,” Mulcahy stated in an interview with The Kerryman.
Lisbeth’s Life and Legacy
Though born in Denmark, Lisbeth Mulcahy deeply embraced the culture of West Kerry, immersing herself in its language and history. She was a dedicated supporter of the arts, notably being the first to exhibit works from the Irish Museum of Modern Arts collection in Dingle.
Supporting Cancer Research and Palliative Care
All proceeds from the sale of Lisbeth – New & Selected Poems will be donated to cancer research at Cork University Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital Kerry.
