Motorola Razr Fold: A New Contender in the Foldable Market
Motorola is making a significant push into the foldable phone market with the Razr Fold, unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona. This new device aims to compete directly with established players like Samsung and Google, offering a blend of sleek design, powerful performance and advanced camera technology.
Design and Build Quality
The Motorola Razr Fold boasts a remarkably thin profile, measuring just 4.6mm when unfolded and 9.9mm when closed. Weighing in at 243 grams, it positions itself between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold in terms of size and weight. The device features a titanium internal structure and a stainless steel joint, designed for durability and longevity, with Motorola claiming the hinge should withstand up to ten years of leverage. The exterior display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic Armor 3, offering enhanced scratch resistance, while the internal display utilizes ultra-thin glass (UTG) with an impact-resistant film.
The Razr Fold will be available in Pantone Blackened Blue with a textured rubber-like back for improved grip, and Pantone Lily White with a smooth, satin-like finish.
Display Specifications
The Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch pOLED external display with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, peaking at 6,000 nits of brightness. When opened, users are greeted by an 8.1-inch LTPO internal screen with a resolution of 2,484 x 2,232 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 6,200 nits.
Performance and Battery Life
Powering the Razr Fold is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Motorola has incorporated an advanced liquid cooling system to maintain optimal performance. A standout feature is the large 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a first for a foldable phone sold in North America, offering extended usage. The device supports 80W wired charging, capable of adding 12 hours of additional operation in just 12 minutes, and 50W wireless charging via TurboPower technology.
Camera System
Motorola is emphasizing the camera capabilities of the Razr Fold. It features a triple 50-megapixel camera system, including a 50MP Sony LYTIA 828 main sensor, a 50MP periscopic lens with 3x optical zoom and 100x Super Zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide lens with a 122-degree field of view for macro photography. Video recording is supported up to 8K resolution with Dolby Vision, and color accuracy is Pantone certified. Selfie cameras include a 32-megapixel front-facing camera and a 20-megapixel camera on the cover display.
Software and AI Features
The Razr Fold runs on Android 16 and will receive seven years of software support. Motorola has integrated Moto AI functions, with options to utilize Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity as base AI tools.
Pricing and Availability
The Motorola Razr Fold will be priced at €1,999 (approximately $2,350 USD) when bundled with the Moto Pen Ultra stylus. It will initially launch in Europe, with a North American release planned for “the coming months.” A special FIFA World Cup 26 edition, featuring 24-carat gold plating, will likewise be available.
Durability and Protection
The Razr Fold has achieved IP48 and IP49 ratings, indicating resistance to debris larger than 1mm, submersion in water, and high water pressure. However, it lacks dust resistance, unlike the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Motorola Edge 70 Fusion
Alongside the Razr Fold, Motorola also announced the Edge 70 Fusion, a more affordable device emphasizing style and durability. It boasts IP68, IP69, and MIL-STD-810H certifications, along with a 6.78″ Extreme AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 5,200 mAh or 7,000 mAh battery options. Pricing for the Edge 70 Fusion starts at CZK 10,599 (approximately $430 USD).
