Movistar has given a twist to its television for the new season with a new service of streaming which will include a game of LaLiga and another of Champions League and a movie premiere per day from 11 euros per month for the operator’s customers.
The service will also give access to other sports content that it offers to its customers. Movistar and it will be open to non-customers with a higher price (14 euros per month). The offer will thus include matches from the NBA and ACB and events in other sports such as tennis, rugby and golf, as well as access to fictional content and documentaries produced by Movistar and programs such as La Endurance.
One of the main changes will be the demise of zero, which will be replaced by a new reference channel on dial 7, which will recover to a certain extent the style of the old Canal+ by including more premieres, fiction and sports content in its programming. In addition, the new television will have film channels, series, documentaries, music, originals and an ephemeral channel (pop-up) which will be renewed monthly.
This move by Telefónica is the first of the announced “flexibility” of its television strategy after it is no longer obliged to share content such as series, movies, LaLiga and the Champions League with the competition at a fixed price. The operator was bound by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) to sell this content if required due to the conditions imposed by the regulator on the purchase of DTS(Sogecable and Canal+) .
An example that illustrates the change that the end of these conditions has meant for the company is that, for example, the channel that will replace Zero includes content that would have made it mandatory for Telefónica offered to Orange, Vodafone and the rest of the competitors their programming.
