Allan Heinberg Tapped for Mr. Terrific Spin-off

DC Studios is reportedly developing a television series centered on Mr. Terrific. The character, introduced in the film Superman, is now set to headline his own project, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Allan Heinberg Tapped for Mr. Terrific Spin-off

Allan Heinberg is attached to the series. Heinberg brings a resume to the DCU, having previously penned the 2017 Wonder Woman film and served as showrunner for Netflix’s The Sandman. His television credits also include work on Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C.

Gathegi Poised to Reprise Role

Edi Gathegi, who debuted in James Gunn’s Superman, is expected to return as Mr. Terrific for the spin-off. While the project is in its nascent stages, the involvement of Gathegi suggests a direct narrative link to the recent film. DC Studios has yet to issue an official statement, and the extent of co-CEO James Gunn’s oversight on this specific production remains unclear.

Expanding the DCU Footprint

This series represents the latest piece as DC Studios continues bringing the pieces together. The studio is looking to bridge the gap between theatrical releases and streaming content through a slate of projects:

DC Studios Showcase | Ep. 14: Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific & Maria Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer
  • Lanterns: A Green Lantern TV show, currently set to premiere in August.
  • Clayface: A project centered on the Batman antagonist, set to head to theaters in October.
  • Man of Tomorrow: A sequel to Superman, which is slated for release next July. Gathegi is expected to return as Mr. Terrific in this film.

Stabilizing the Brand After Supergirl

It is a calculated move for a studio currently recalibrating its trajectory.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios face a period of adjustment following the performance of Supergirl. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that film is projected to result in the studio losing more than $100 million. By centering future development on established characters from the foundational Superman film, the studio is betting that continuity will secure audience engagement as it rolls out the next phase of its cinematic universe.
