Music Thrills: 25 Years of Latvijas Radio 2 Music Bank Reach Peak Harmony in Daugavpils Finale
Prepare for a weekend of musical immersion as Daugavpils prepares to host the grand finale of Latvijas Radio 2 Music Bank 2024. Scheduled for January 25th at the Daugavpils Olympic Center, this year’s celebration marks not only the culmination of another competitive year, but also the milestone 25th anniversary of the beloved national music competition.
Concertgoers are promised a unique treat, a musical tapestry woven together by renowned talents. While the crème de la crème performers from across Latvia will grace the stage, attendees will also get a glimpse behind the curtain at the creative genius brewing within Daugavpils.
Eminent conductor and artistic director, Jevgeņijs Ustinskovs, promises “a pre-opening program exclusively for those at the venue" featuring fresh talent. Young soloist Elīna Belinska takes center stage showcasing new compositions alongside Ilona Bageli offering a captivating performance of the beloved Latgalian folk song “Auga, Auge Rūžeņa,” arranged by esteemed composer Raimonds Pauls.
Known for his signature emotional depth, Gunārs Kalniņš kicks off the evening with a moving rendition of Raimonds Pauls’ "Balto Dziesmu" alongside the mixed choir "Daugava". Daugavpils audiences, accustomed to receiving exclusive premieres, will witness history in the making with the first-ever performance of Ivo Fomins’ latest works, and that of the groundbreaking song "Sitiet Bungas" by local band "Autobuss Debesīs." Completing the lineup with electrifying performances are Mika Galvanovska, and the energetic group "The Sound Poets" promising a powerful blend of Latvian musical heritage and contemporary dynamism.
Beyond the celebration of music itself, the Daugavpils finale echoes the city’s commitment to fostering artistic development. Ustinskovs stresses, “our musicians and singers are ready! We have an incredible group dedicated to creating art together, making each voice part of one harmonious whole".
Following the live televised finale, slated to air on LTV1, Latvijas Radio 2, and LSM.lv, Daugavpils invites audiences to keep the musical journey alive. Future events include romantic Valentine’s Day concert "Zem Mīlestības Zvaigznēm" featuring Kristīna Zaharova, and an empowering Women’s Day celebration, "Daiļās Dāmas”, starring Andris Baltacis and other noteworthy soloists.
