2026 Summer Festivals Celebrating Black Culture, Community, and Travel
As summer approaches, Black communities across the U.S. and beyond are gearing up for a season packed with festivals that blend music, art, food, and cultural celebration. From jazz in New York to Afrobeats in Portugal, these events offer opportunities to connect, learn, and revel in Black excellence. Here’s a guide to the most anticipated festivals of the season.
Music & Culture Festivals
The Blue Note Jazz Festival, set for June 2026 in New York City and Los Angeles, will mark its 15th anniversary with performances by Ledisi, Durand Bernarr, and the Harlem Gospel Choir. The event expands to Sony Hall and Central Park’s SummerStage, while Los Angeles will host Grace Jones and De La Soul at the Hollywood Bowl.

The AFRAM Festival in Baltimore, running June 19–21, celebrates Juneteenth with free family-friendly activities, including performances by Charlie Wilson and SWV. Now in its 50th year, the festival remains a cornerstone of Black cultural expression on the East Coast.
The Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans (July 3–6) will feature Brandy, Cardi B, and Patti Labelle, alongside author talks and networking opportunities. Attendees can enjoy free daytime access to the New Orleans Convention Center.
Global Celebrations
For fans of Afrobeats, the Afro Nation festival in Portugal (July 3–5) promises a diasporic celebration with headliners like Burna Boy and Tyla. The event, held on Praia da Rocha Beach, also highlights Black expat communities and Portuguese culture.
The Dream Con in Houston (July 10–12) will spotlight Black fandom through cosplay, gaming, and panels featuring Issa Rae and KevOnStage. The festival’s expansion to include film and car shows caters to a broad audience.
Environmental and Community Focus
The Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C. (July 18–19), founded to address environmental justice, will feature music, art installations, and a marketplace for Black-owned businesses. The event returns to its roots after experimenting with new formats in 2025.
