Sun Jing Mentors Students to Success at International Production Management Conference
Two students mentored by Associate Professor Sun Jing at an undisclosed institution have received awards at the 6th International Conference on Production Management (ICPM) 2025, held in Taiwan. The awards recognize innovative research in supply chain management and virtual power plants, contributing to advancements in sustainable and efficient production systems.
Award Recipients and Research Highlights
Rikuto Shibayama received the “Excellent Student Paper Award” for his research, “A Multi-Period Stochastic Supply Chain Model Considering the Balances of Cost, Delivery Time and Emission Control Area.” This study addresses the complexities of supply chain logistics in the face of global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing environmental regulations. Shibayama’s model incorporates delivery delay penalties, unhurried steaming due to Emission Control Area (ECA) implementation, and fuel switching to minimize total costs. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a target to reduce emissions by 70-80% by 2030 compared to 2008 levels, driving the demand for research like Shibayama’s to optimize emission control strategies [Researchmap].
Fuki Shimahara was awarded a “Certificate of Presentation” for his work on “Simulation Model for Virtual Power Plants Considering the Balance of Renewable Energy.” Shimahara’s research focuses on overcoming the instability of renewable energy sources through the development of a mathematical model for Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). The study, focused on the Kanto region, evaluates the impact of “switching prices” and “charging/discharging constraints” on balancing economic feasibility with the expansion of renewable energy [Researchmap].
Mentorship and Future Research
Both Shibayama and Shimahara credited Associate Professor Sun Jing for her guidance and support. Shibayama plans to further refine his model by incorporating new factors and pandemic dynamics. Shimahara is committed to continuing his research on VPPs and renewable energy integration to provide further insights and refine the model [Researchmap].
