Stephon Castle‘s 40-point triple-double lifted the San Antonio Spurs to their fourth straight NBA win on Saturday, with a 138-125 victory over the struggling Dallas Mavericks.
In addition to his personal best in points, Castle grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 12 assists, adding three steals and a block to round out his performance.
The 2025 Rookie of the Year, at 21, became the third-youngest player to achieve a 40-point triple-double, behind only LeBron James and Luka Doncic. He joined legend David Robinson as the only Spurs player to record 40-point triple-doubles.
Castle was ruthless, hitting 15 of 19 shots and helping the Spurs secure their second win in three days against the Mavs, who are on their seventh straight loss.
Devin Vassell added 17 points and Victor Wembanyama finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, who led 81-67 at halftime.
Klay Thompson was the Mavericks’ leading scorer with 19 points, while rookie sensation Cooper Flagg had 14, breaking his streak of four consecutive games with at least 30 points.
Flagg did not take the field in the fourth quarter, with Mavs coach Jason Kidd explaining after the game that the 19-year-old was battling a back issue.
Castle reached 40 points with an offensive rebound dunk midway through the fourth quarter, putting San Antonio up 129-108.
“It was nice, but above all it was nice to do it knowing that we would win“, he commented.
I Rockets zittiscono i Thunder
The Houston Rockets, boosted by Alperen Sengun’s triple double and decisive baskets by superstar Kevin Durant, came back from behind to beat the reigning NBA champions Thunder, without some starters, 112-106 in Oklahoma City.
Houston trailed by 15 points in the second quarter against a Thunder team without reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
But the Rockets recovered, taking the lead in the third period and holding on late to end a two-game losing streak.
“We started scoring,” said Durant, a two-time NBA champion who began his career with the Thunder and received boos from fans still disappointed by his departure more than nine years ago.
“I think in the first half we had good shots, but we didn’t make them. In the second half, however, we put them on.
“We knew they would slow down a little,” Durant added. “In the first half they played with a lot of energy at home. Three players were missing, others had the opportunity and took advantage of it. In the second half, I think we came out with the same energy.”
Durant, blocked in the first half in which he attempted just three shots, finished with 20 points and 6 of 10 from the field.
Turkish center Sengun had 17 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, adding three steals and three blocks. Jabari Smith Jr. had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Tari Eason was Houston’s leading scorer with 26 points, while all five Rockets starters finished with at least 16 points.
Cason Wallace led the Thunder with 23 points and Isaiah Joe added 21 off the bench for the defending champions, who still maintain the league’s best record at 40-13.
Winger Chet Holmgren, returning after an injury absence, added 17 points and 14 rebounds, but the Thunder — without Gilgeous-Alexander until after the All-Star break due to an abdominal injury — couldn’t maintain their early pace.
In the other games of the evening, the Brooklyn Nets scored 80 points in the first half, winning 127-113 against the Washington Wizards, who only had eight players available due to injuries and the wait for new signings.
Michael Porter Jr scored 23 points, 20 of them in the first half, to end the Nets’ three-game losing streak.
Record night for Nikola Jokic, who helped the Denver Nuggets bounce back from their overtime loss to the New York Knicks with a 136-120 win over the Bulls in Chicago.
Jokic had 22 points, 14 rebounds and 17 assists, his 182nd career triple-double, surpassing Oscar Robertson for second place on the all-time list, led by Russell Westbrook with 207 triple-doubles.
Charlotte saw Miles Bridges score 26 points and rookie Kon Knueppel add 23 as the Hornets earned their ninth straight win with a 126-119 win over the Hawks in Atlanta.
The Hornets’ streak is the longest currently in the NBA and the longest for the club since 1999, when they won nine straight games.
In Los Angeles, LeBron James scored 20 points, with seven rebounds and 10 assists, leading the Lakers to a 105-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Moses Moody was the Warriors’ leading scorer with 25 points in a California match that lost some appeal due to the injury absences of Warriors star Stephen Curry and Lakers star Luka Doncic.
