NC State Gymnastics Soars to Victory in Home Quad Meet, Prioritizing Mental Health
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s gymnastics team delivered a dominant performance in its first home quad meet of the season, achieving a first-place score of 196.700 against Yale, George Washington, and New Hampshire. The meet, designated as the ACC Network’s Mental Health Awareness meet, saw the Wolfpack athletes demonstrate their commitment to well-being alongside their athletic prowess.
Wolfpack Prioritizes Mental Wellness
Prior to competition, NC State gymnasts wore “I Am” shirts during warm-ups, a visual representation of the team’s focus on individuality and mental health. They as well sported green ribbons in their hair, further emphasizing the importance of mental wellness. Head coach Kim Landrus highlighted the team’s proactive approach to supporting its athletes.
“Our entire team, just with the stresses as a college student athlete, our coaching staff, support staff and entire team develop sure that we have a really good pulse on what’s going on and pivot when we need to,” Landrus said.
Strong Performances Across All Rotations
NC State began the meet on vault, a recent strength for the team, with notable scores from sophomores Syniya Thomas (9.850) and Ava Myers (9.825). The team posted a total of 49.025 in the first rotation.
The Wolfpack continued their momentum on bars, achieving a score of 49.000 or higher for the fifth consecutive meet on that event. Sophomore Caroline Volk led the way with a standout score of 9.900, contributing to an overall team score of 98.100.
“Confidence breeds confidence,” Landrus explained. “As you continue to build off your performances from the previous competition and then build off the performances from those that come before you in a competition, it just really elevates your adrenaline, confidence and enthusiasm.”
Freshman Shine on Beam and Floor
The beam rotation saw impressive performances from freshmen Adasyn Tackett, who earned her first career 9.900, and Autumn Rardin, who tied her personal best with a 9.850. These performances helped the team achieve a season-high score of 49.300 on beam.
Rardin continued to excel on floor, securing a 9.900 to seal the victory for NC State. Junior Elle Hadrick contributed a 9.875, and Thomas added a 9.875, while senior Meg Adler tied her career-high with a 9.850.
Looking Ahead
Landrus emphasized the team’s collective effort, stating, “We had twenty hearts out there today, so we just poured our hearts into everything and it was a cumulative effect that led to the result.”
NC State will next compete in an away quad meet against No. 38 Towson on March 1 at 2 p.m.
