Corinthians Commits to Stadium Water Access
Corinthians is retrofitting the Neo Química Arena with a network of water fountains, a direct move to resolve persistent fan complaints over hydration access and the high cost of bottled water.
Plumbing Work Nears Completion
According to reporting by Meu Timão, the installation is already in an advanced stage. Construction crews have finished the necessary plumbing and structural groundwork within the stadium’s North and South sectors. Management is currently awaiting the final delivery of the mechanical units to bring the project to a close.
While the club has yet to confirm the exact number of units, the objective is clear: consistent, free access to drinking water. For years, supporters have argued that the stadium lacked adequate hydration points, forcing them to pay R$ 8.00 per cup for mineral water.
The Breaking Point: A 33ºC Opener
Many reported significant difficulty staying hydrated throughout the match.
The situation turned contentious when a stadium announcement urged fans to stay hydrated—even as accessible water stations remained unavailable. The Arquibancada 85 collective seized on the irony, using social media to publicly criticize the stadium’s hydration policies.
Advocacy and Board Negotiations
Arquibancada 85 became the primary driver for reform. Through a series of meetings with the Corinthians board, the group highlighted the financial strain on families and the genuine health risks of the current stadium environment. Their persistence forced a shift in the club’s administrative stance.
Aligning with National Standards
Corinthians officials acknowledged the complaints earlier this year, confirming they were reviewing the distribution and sales model for water within the venue.
By providing free water fountains, the club aims to break the reliance on commercial bottled water that has defined the matchday experience.
