W6 Bus Route Update: Full Operation Expected by End of November
Commuters in west Dublin rejoice! The full W6 bus route, initially delayed due to bridge widening works, is expected to be fully operational by the end of November 2024. This welcome news was shared by Fine Gael TD Emer Higgins on social media, who has been advocating for commuters in the area.
Delays and Improvements
The W6 route, part of Dublin’s BusConnects Network Redesign, experienced temporary disruptions due to the ongoing widening of Hazelhatch Bridge. The project, aimed at enhancing capacity and connectivity, is nearing completion.
“The NTA has just confirmed to me that the full W6 route is expected to be operational by the end of November 2024, pending a few final safety checks,” said TD Higgins. “This is something I have been pushing for during my time as your local TD, and I know this will be a huge boost for residents, especially students from Rathcoole, Saggart, and Newcastle, who will have better access to Celbridge and Maynooth.”
Connecting West Dublin Communities
The W6 route offers a vital connection between western and southern Dublin suburbs, circumventing the need to travel through the city center. This orbital route provides residents with more efficient public transport options for work, school, and accessing essential services.
Phase 5B of the BusConnects Network Redesign launched the W6, designed to enhance accessibility and support the increasing needs of Dublin’s growing population.
The new route will serve the areas of Newcastle, Saggart, Citywest, Tallaght, Liffey Valley, Lucan, Blanchardstown, Hazelhatch, Maynooth, and Celbridge.
A Connected Future
The W6 bus route is part of a larger initiative to improve public transportation throughout Dublin. The project aims to increase transit capacity, service frequency, and evening and weekend availability.
