Cork College of FET Opens Cutting-Edge Healthcare Simulation Suite
Cork, Ireland – Cork College of FET’s Morrison’s Island campus recently celebrated the official opening of a state-of-the-art healthcare simulation suite, designed to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals in Cork and the wider South of Ireland. This €180,000 investment provides hands-on learning spaces for healthcare and pre-nursing students, equipping them with essential practical skills.
A Pathway to Nursing Success
The new facility also supports a groundbreaking partnership with Munster Technological University (MTU), offering a unique pathway for students to complete their first year of nursing studies at Cork College of FET. This innovative approach provides students with a strong foundation in practical skills before transitioning to MTU for further specialized training.

Equipped with the latest collaborative teaching technology, the healthcare suite enables live-streaming of meetings, talks, and lectures, fostering active engagement across multiple campuses. “As part of the FET College of the Future project, we are strategically investing to meet the needs of Cork and the wider South of Ireland, particularly in healthcare, where there is a high demand for skilled staff with practical experience,” said Denis Leamy, chief executive Cork ETB. “The new healthcare suite is a significant step forward in providing top-quality facilities for our students and community, especially with the innovative nursing degree pathway at Morrison’s Island campus.”
Principal Helen Ryan emphasized the importance of practical learning in further education, stating, “Further education has always offered a practical approach to learning, equipping students with industry-relevant skills while providing clear progression routes to higher education. The cutting-edge technology and equipment in our classrooms are crucial in preparing our learners for the workplace and beyond. We want our graduates to be ready to succeed, whether in employment or at university.”
