The initiative stems from Executive Order No. 5, which Governor Sherrill signed moments after her inauguration. The order mandates that state government save residents time and money while ensuring every taxpayer dollar is proven to be an investment rather than just an expense. “On my first day in office, I promised that state government would be transparent and accountable,” Sherrill said. “With the New Jersey Report Card, we are doing exactly that. Residents deserve to see how their money is spent and which programs they are funding.”

Developed in partnership with the New Jersey Innovation Authority, the platform features a modern, data-driven interface that includes:

• 10-Year Trends: Users can toggle through a decade of spending and revenue data to observe shifts in state priorities.
• Impact Metrics: Real-world data on critical programs such as the Child Care Assistance Program and the Bringing Veterans Home initiative.
• Targeted Spending: Specific details on investments in K-12 schools, property tax relief, and pension contributions.

The dashboard displays topline spending figures for the proposed July-to-June fiscal year and includes brief descriptions of major spending items and select smaller state programs. Officials describe the tool as a way to end the era of the “black box” budget in Trenton by making state finances accessible and understandable to the public.
