Americans of various backgrounds were affected by the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, including New Jersey chapters of Turning point USA, the organization he co-founded.
“When I turned on the news yesterday I prayed nonstop until I heard the words I dreaded,” Jenna Anevski, campus coordinator and past president of turning Point’s Montclair State University chapter, told NorthJersey.com on Sept. 11. “I remember forgetting how to breathe. My phone was blowing up, and like so many others I felt sick to my stomach.”
Kirk, who was also the president of Turning Point, was shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University and later pronounced dead. The search for the killer was ongoing as of 2 p.m. on Sept. 11.
Turning Point is identified on its website as “a national student movement dedicated to identifying, organizing, and empowering young people to promote the principles of freedom, limited government, and free markets.”
