Yankees Complete Sweep of Red Sox with Schlittler’s Dominant Performance at Fenway
April 24, 2026 — The Recent York Yankees secured a series sweep over the Boston Red Sox with a 4-2 victory at Fenway Park on Thursday night, extending their winning streak to six games. Right-hander Cam Schlittler delivered a standout performance, pitching eight innings and allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five. The win improved the Yankees to 13-9 on the season and pushed the Red Sox further into the AL East cellar at 9-13.
The game featured a compelling storyline as Schlittler, a Walpole, Massachusetts native, returned to his home state for the first time since the 2025 AL Wild Card Series, where he clinched the series for New York. That appearance had sparked online harassment toward Schlittler and his family, which continued into this rematch.
Despite early struggles with his command, Schlittler settled in after Red Sox left-hander Payton Tolle exited the game. He retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced, showcasing the resilient mentality his teammates praised. “He has that F-you attitude, like Carlos [Rodón] and Gerrit [Cole] that everybody loves and everybody adores when you’re playing behind him,” said Jazz Chisholm Jr., who tied the game with a fifth-inning home run.
The offensive breakthrough came in the seventh inning when Cody Bellinger delivered a pinch-hit, go-ahead, two-run single to break a 1-1 tie. Bellinger’s hit proved to be the difference as the Yankees held on for the 4-2 victory.
Schlittler’s line of eight innings, two runs (one earned), four hits, and five strikeouts marked a career-high in innings pitched. He improved to 2-1 on the season with a 1.95 ERA. The Red Sox were led by starting pitcher Brayan Bello, who took the loss, falling to 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA.
The series opened on Tuesday with Luis Gil and Connelly Early as the starting pitchers, followed by Max Fried and Ranger Suárez on Wednesday. The Yankees won two of the three games, earning the series victory.
With the sweep, the Yankees have now won six consecutive games and continue to lead the AL East. The Red Sox, despite a recent Patriots’ Day win over the Tigers, remain in last place in the division as they look to rebound from a 2-8 start to the season.
The rivalry will resume later in the season with two more scheduled series: June 5-7 in New York and June 25-28 in Boston.
