Slovak NHL Players in Action: Slafkovský Wins, Dvorský and Pospíšil Fall Short

A trio of Slovak forwards participated in recent NHL games, with Juraj Slafkovský of the Montreal Canadiens securing a victory even as Dalibor Dvorský and Martin Pospíšil’s teams suffered defeats. Erik Černák was sidelined due to injury, and Pavol Regenda remained a healthy scratch.

Slafkovský Leads Canadiens to Victory

Juraj Slafkovský and the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1. Slafkovský registered four shots on goal and has accumulated 52 points in 63 games this season, setting a new personal record for points in an NHL regular season. The win secured the Canadiens’ third-place position in the Atlantic Division.

“I think it was our most comprehensive performance and one of our best of the season,” Montreal forward Jake Evans stated after the game. “It was tight in the third period and the opposition tried to equalise. We didn’t manage to score a third goal for a long time, which would have taken us out of the pressure. However, we finally managed it. I’m happy with how this game went.”

Toronto coach Craig Berube acknowledged his team’s struggles, stating, “We played well in the first period, we had the puck on our stick a lot. Unfortunately, we couldn’t come up with anything with it.” The Maple Leafs have now lost eight consecutive games, with forward William Nylander noting, “It’s a lot. I think we had good parts in all those games, but it wasn’t for the full 60 minutes. We have to deliver a full performance the whole game.”

Dvorský and Blues Fall to Islanders

Dalibor Dvorský’s St. Louis Blues lost to the New York Islanders 4-3 in overtime, despite holding a 3-0 lead. Dvorský has not scored in his last nine games and played 13:27 minutes, recording a minus point and winning 5 of 11 faceoffs (45% success rate). He currently has 15 points (9 goals, 6 assists) this season.

This game marked the first time all three Blues players drafted in the first round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft – Dvorský (10th overall), Otto Stenberg (25th), and Theo Lindstein (29th) – played together. The Islanders’ comeback was fueled by a power play goal after a penalty to St. Louis’s Pavel Buchnevich.

Pospíšil and Flames Shut Out by Rangers

Martin Pospíšil and the Calgary Flames were shut out by the New York Rangers 4-0. Pospíšil played nearly ten minutes and recorded a minus point. Alexis Lafreniere scored a hat trick for the Rangers, while Jonathan Quick recorded his second shutout of the season.
