Alliance Area habitat for Humanity is mainly funded by donations, grants, and mortgage payments from Habitat homeowners. It also relies on many volunteers.

The mortgages do not receive federal assistance. A Habitat homeowner takes on full financial responsibility with a no-interest mortgage.

The agency also offers a critical home repair program.

Niki McIlvain, executive director of Alliance Habitat, said the horse racing fundraiser has become “our flagship event of the year” for raising money to build or repair homes in the Alliance area.

The association also holds smaller fundraising events, including a 5K run.
