Jersey Shore Construction Delays Mount After Harsh Winter Weather
Construction projects along the Jersey Shore are facing significant delays, weeks in some cases, following a particularly harsh winter that brought multiple snowstorms, frigid temperatures, and persistent high winds. The setbacks are causing financial strain for contractors and raising concerns about project timelines as the spring season approaches.
Impact on Construction Schedules
The recent bout of inclement weather, including multiple snowstorms, has disrupted construction schedules across the Jersey Shore. Anthony Warner, of S.J. Hauck Construction, explained the challenges, stating the company adjusted a house-lifting project due to anticipated high winds. “We were supposed to put this house up 10 foot today but with the winds coming tonight, I’m going to go about two more feet just to keep it safe and approach back tomorrow,” Warner said.
Steven Hauck, also of S.J. Hauck Construction, noted the severity of the winter’s impact. “This weather has been drastically impactful,” Hauck stated. “I would say in total, we’re probably two to three weeks behind.”
Financial Repercussions for Contractors
The delays are not only impacting project completion dates but also creating financial difficulties for construction companies. Jerry Curran, of J. Curran Home Services, highlighted the contractual obligations and the financial consequences of weather-related delays. “It takes a financial toll given that we have set contracts and we have agreements with timelines and then when the weather is like this and the snow pushes everything back,” Curran told NBC10. “Some things are not going to get done and it’s a hard pill to swallow.”
