HOUSTON, Texas – In an absolute downpour, the No. 5/2 Texas track and field team battled it out on the second day of the Tom Tellez Invite at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Saturday.

Sophomore Aaliyah Foster won the women’s long jump with her jump of 6.43m (21-1.25). The mark moved Foster to No. 8 on the UT All-Time Performer List and up to No. 3 in the NCAA this season.

Despite having to move indoor due to the weather, Osawese Agbonkonkonwon his third-straight high jump competition after clearing 2.12m (6-11.50) on his first attempt. Dylan Lineberger was second clearing the same bar on his second attempt.

Freshman Brandon Schirck finished fourth in the men’s hammer throw and recorded a personal best of 59.16m (194-01) and moved to No. 5 on the UT All-Time Performer List. Grad transfer Cooper Tyler was third in the men’s javelin with a season best throw of 53.16m (174-05).

The women’s shot put saw sophomore Nina Ndubuisi finish as the runner-up with a season best throw of 18.08m (59-4). The throw was the sixth-best throw in UT history. Senior Chrystal Herpin was third with a season best mark of 17.83m (58-6) and is tied for the 10th-best throw in UT history. Michael Piñones was third in men’s shot put with a heave of 17.59m (57-8.50) after throwing in heavy rain. Schirck also added a fifth-place finish with a throw of 16.40m (53-9.75).

On a drenched track, Akala Garrett won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.14 to set the new meet record. Texas swept the 100-meter dash in an absolute downpour after sophomore Carleta Bernard posted a winning time of 11.45. Freshman Holly Okuku was second in 11.58 and fellow freshman Nita Koom-Dadzie was third in 11.73.

Xavier Butler won the men’s 100m with a time of 10.59 and Kendrick Smallwood was third in 10.68.  

Texas also added the top 12 times in the women’s 1500-meter. Elizabeth Stockman edged Eva Jess at the line to win with a time of 4:21.00 to 4:21.03. Elizabeth Pickett closed out the podium with her time of 4:24.78.
