Pakistan Assures Uninterrupted Electricity and Gas During Ramazan
Islamabad – The Pakistani government has assured citizens of uninterrupted electricity and gas supply during Sehr and Iftar timings throughout the holy month of Ramazan. The announcement, made on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Power Minister Awais Leghari, aims to facilitate those observing the fast.
Government Commitment to Utility Supply
Federal Ministers Malik and Leghari stated that, barring any unforeseen major faults, there would be “no electricity or gas loadshedding” during the pre-dawn meal (Sehr) and the evening meal to break the fast (Iftar). Even areas experiencing economic loadshedding due to high transmission losses will see restrictions lifted during these hours, according to the ministers. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to ensure seamless utility services for those fasting.
Gas Supply Schedule
The government has arranged for gas supply with maximum pressure from 3:00 AM to 10:30 PM, specifically during Sehr and Iftar. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will manage supply across Punjab, whereas Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will oversee distribution in Karachi and surrounding areas. The Tribune reported details of this schedule on February 18, 2026.
Electricity Supply and Monitoring
Power Minister Leghari affirmed that electricity supply would remain uninterrupted across Pakistan during Sehr and Iftar. A special control room has been established at the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) to monitor all feeders and ensure consistent power delivery. Citizens are encouraged to report any issues via helpline 118, with assurances of immediate resolution. Dawn reported on the establishment of this control room.
Complaint Resolution and Monitoring
Dedicated monitoring control rooms have been set up at the head offices of both gas companies, SNGPL and SSGC, with directives issued to regional offices to closely monitor gas supply, particularly in areas at the end of the distribution network. For gas-related complaints, consumers can contact helpline 119. Radio Pakistan detailed these arrangements.
Ramazan Expected Start Date
With the Ramazan moon sighted on the night of February 18, 2026, Pakistan is expected to commence the holy month with the first fast on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Pakistan Today confirmed this date.
