Italian Fugitive, Obsessed with TV, Captured in London After Ancona Assaults

Salvatore Del Campo, a 41-year-old Italian man wanted for stalking and assault, was apprehended at St. Pancras station in London on February 13, 2026, following a five-month international manhunt. The capture, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor Ruggiero Dicuonzo, was aided by Del Campo’s frequent television appearances and online activity, despite being a fugitive.

The Stalking and Assault Case

The investigation, led by Deputy Police Commissioner Carlo Pinto of the Ancona Flying Squad, began in March 2025 with complaints of stalking filed by Del Campo’s ex-partner in Osimo. The harassment escalated into a violent attack on lawyer Donatella Baleani on April 2, 2025, in the “Gli Archi” car park in Ancona. Del Campo attacked Baleani in an attempt to influence the custody case regarding his four-year-old daughter.

Del Campo was initially sentenced to two years imprisonment in November 2025 for the assault on Baleani.

Escape and Pursuit

After being placed under house arrest on August 7, 2025, Del Campo escaped on September 15, 2025, and removed his electronic monitoring bracelet, claiming it was “carcinogenic.” He fled to Switzerland and then to England, believing he had evaded capture.

Betrayed by Media Appearances

Despite being a fugitive, Del Campo repeatedly sought media attention, appearing in three interviews with journalist Chiara Cazzaniga on the Italian television program “Chi l’ha visto?” on September 24, November 22, and February 11, 2026 – just two days before his arrest. Investigators used these appearances, along with monitoring his cell phone and Facebook profile, to track his movements.

International Cooperation and Extradition

The operation to locate and arrest Del Campo was part of the “Wanted” ministerial project, supported by Interpol. His extradition from London to Italy is scheduled for March 9, 2026, at the latest. He will face further legal proceedings upon his return.

Legal Representation

Federica Guerrera, a lawyer from Senigallia, will now represent Del Campo, after his brother, who previously acted as his legal counsel, withdrew from the case.
