NRK Reporter Restricted from Covering Foreign Ministry and Espen Barth Eide
NRK has implemented specific guidelines for one of its prominent journalists, Lilla Sølhusvik, preventing her from reporting on matters related to the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) or interviewing Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. The restrictions stem from the professional connection of Sølhusvik’s husband, Torgeir Larsen, to the UD.
Conflict of Interest
Lilla Sølhusvik, the presenter of NRK’s “Politisk kvarter,” is married to Torgeir Larsen, currently the Foreign Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Larsen has held several high-ranking positions, including State Secretary for former Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Chief of Staff for then-NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. This relationship creates a conflict of interest, rendering Sølhusvik ineligible to cover a significant portion of Norwegian foreign policy.
Reporting Restrictions
According to Sofie Gran Aspunvik, NRK’s acting subject editor, Sølhusvik will not cover foreign policy issues where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has constitutional responsibility or serves as the primary source of information for government decisions. She is too barred from attending meetings where these matters are discussed. Nettavisen reported these restrictions on February 21, 2026.
Coverage Exceptions
Despite these limitations, Sølhusvik can still cover aspects of the Epstein complex that do not directly involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as cases related to the Nobel Committee or the Council of Europe. The restrictions impact the booking of guests and the selection of topics for “Politisk kvarter.” Sølhusvik will not be part of the reporting team actively investigating ongoing news stories.
No Inability Regarding the Labour Party
NRK has clarified that Sølhusvik’s disqualification does not extend to the Labour Party. She has previously authored books about Camilla Stoltenberg and Kristin Halvorsen and is not considered ineligible to report on the party.
Recent Statements by Espen Barth Eide
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has recently addressed international concerns, expressing alarm over escalating conflicts. In June 2025, he described the conflict between Israel and Iran as “exactly the development we feared,” noting a dangerous cycle of attacks, and counterattacks. NRK reported on this statement on June 14, 2025. He also voiced concerns about events in Lebanon in September 2024, stating it was “exactly what we feared would happen.” NRK reported on this on September 23, 2024. Eide stated that Norway is taking a decision from the American Supreme Court into consideration. NRK reported on this on February 13, 2026.
