NRL 2026: Bulldogs Centre Xerri Linked with Moves, Contract Talks Stall for Rabbitohs Playmaker

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are facing questions regarding the future of centre Bronson Xerri, with reports suggesting discontent and potential interest from rival clubs. Meanwhile, contract negotiations with South Sydney Rabbitohs playmaker Jamie Humphreys have hit a snag amid salary cap concerns.

Bronson Xerri’s Future at the Bulldogs

Bronson Xerri, currently contracted with the Bulldogs until the end of 2027, has been the subject of speculation following reports of unhappiness at the club. The issue reportedly stems from a request to switch from his preferred left centre position to right centre. Cameron Ciraldo, the Bulldogs coach, recently addressed the situation, but details remain limited.

Despite being linked with clubs such as the Melbourne Storm and Parramatta Eels, both organizations have publicly denied any current interest in securing Xerri’s services. A Storm official indicated a preference for a goal-kicking back, while Eels coach Jason Ryles stated definitively, “No, not at all,” when questioned about a potential move for the centre. Reports suggest that Xerri was dropped from the Bulldogs’ NRL team before their win against Canberra.

Xerri, who joined the Bulldogs in 2024, has played 66 career games, scoring 32 tries. In the 2026 season, he has appeared in one game, playing 90 minutes as a centre, with 18 receipts and 25 tackles made. His NRL profile details his career statistics.

Rabbitohs Contract Talks Halted

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have paused contract discussions with halfback Jamie Humphreys as they navigate salary cap constraints following the arrival of Payne Haas. Humphreys, who joined the club in 2024, had been in advanced talks regarding a one-year extension until the end of 2027.

If a deal cannot be reached, the Perth Bears are expected to express interest in Humphreys, given his versatility to play in the halves or at hooker.

Warriors and Broncos Player Swap

The Warriors are reportedly close to securing a player swap with the Brisbane Broncos as part of the deal sending Origin forward Mitch Barnett to Red Hill. The Warriors are aiming to acquire Grant Anderson, with negotiations ongoing regarding the financial aspects of the trade.

Cowboys Set to Re-Sign Jaxon Purdue

The North Queensland Cowboys are poised to secure the long-term future of young gun Jaxon Purdue with a reported $3 million deal over four years. Purdue, off-contract in 2026, has attracted interest from the Storm, Bulldogs, and Bears, but appears committed to remaining with the Cowboys. Purdue has scored 17 tries in 34 games since his debut in 2024.
