The DAISY Award: Recognizing Nursing Excellence

The DAISY Award is an international program established to celebrate the clinical skills and compassionate care provided by nurses in hospitals and healthcare systems.Nurses can be nominated by patients, families, or colleagues, and recipients are recognized monthly. https://www.daisyfoundation.org/ The award highlights the crucial role nurses play in providing holistic care, going beyond medical expertise to offer emotional support and build trusting relationships with patients.

A Patient’s Story of Support and Reassurance

The patient who nominated Mone had experienced a previous pregnancy loss, leading to notable anxiety during a subsequent pregnancy in 2022. She sought care at SVMC OBGYN, where staff provided extra monitoring due to elevated fetal heart rates detected during non-stress tests.

Mone’s consistent presence and empathetic approach were especially impactful. The patient shared, “Deb was made aware of my past, and spent a grate deal of her time with me…becoming a friend. She continuously made sure I was pleasant, and asked me questions in a way that someone who truly cared would.” Mone helped the patient recognize that the elevated heart rate was often linked to her own anxiety, and provided support to alleviate those fears.

Continued Care and Lasting Impact

Mone’s dedication extended beyond the initial pregnancy. The patient has as given birth at SVMC two additional times, and Mone made a point to connect with the family each time, even when not directly assigned to their care. This demonstrates a commitment to building lasting relationships and providing consistent support to patients throughout their healthcare journey.

“She always knows who we are, and makes sure that she comes to talk with us, even if we aren’t assigned to her.She truly is a special person, and someone I would consider a friend,” the patient stated.
