Hoboken PATH Closure: City Sews Up Alternative Transportation
Hoboken commuters, prepare for a month-long journey through alternate transportation routes as the PATH station shuts down for much-needed renovations starting January 30th, 2025. The closure, scheduled to last until February 25th, 2025, will allow for critical track repairs, passenger infrastructure upgrades, and the complete replacement of in-station tracks and the Hoboken Interlocking system.
While commuters brace for the expected disruptions, officials are working diligently to minimize inconvenience. A crucial element of this strategy is a partnership with NY Waterway, the regional ferry operator. To ease the burden on travelers, NY Waterway will offer a discounted ferry fare of just $3 for each one-way trip between Hoboken and Midtown Manhattan.
"We recognize this closure presents challenges for our commuters," said Sarah Ramirez, Public Relations Manager at NY Waterway. "Our priority is to ensure a seamless transition and maintain reliable transportation options."
Commuters will have convenient options to explore:
-
Discounted Ferry Service: A $3 fare for one-way trips on NY Waterway ferries between Hoboken NJ Transit terminal and key Midtown Manhattan destinations like Brookfield Place, Pier 11/Wall Street, and 9th Avenue south of 15th Street. Tickets can be purchased at NY Waterway ticket counters located at designated Hoboken terminals or through the NY Waterway app.
-
Free 24/7 Shuttle Buses: These buses will operate around the clock, connecting Hoboken, Newport, and Exchange Place PATH stations.
- Expanded Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Service: NJ Transit will increase service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line to accommodate the surge in passengers.
“We encourage commuters to plan ahead and explore these alternative transportation options," added Ramirez.
Throughout the closure, NY Waterway will be diligently updating schedules and providing commuters with real-time information about ferry services via their website and app.
While these changes may be temporary, they pave the way for a revitalized Hoboken PATH station, promising a future with enhanced safety, efficiency, and convenience for all commuters.
