NYC Hair System Expert Offers Discounts to Teens, Plans Free Services for Cancer Patients
Ace of Fades 212, a Manhattan-based hair replacement studio, is making non-surgical hair systems more accessible to young people experiencing hair loss and is laying the groundwork to provide free solutions for cancer patients. The initiative, spearheaded by founder Marcos Monje, aims to address the emotional and social challenges associated with hair loss, particularly among vulnerable youth.
Youth Accessibility Program Launched
A fresh program offers a 50% discount on hair systems for clients aged 10-17, along with a 25% discount on regular maintenance. This addresses a significant barrier to access – cost – for young people dealing with conditions like alopecia, male pattern baldness, or trichotillomania. According to Monje, many young individuals face bullying and social isolation due to hair loss but lack the financial resources to pursue solutions.
“I listened to too many stories from kids and teenagers who were getting bullied because of hair loss, alopecia, or receding hairlines,” said Marcos Monje, master hair system specialist and founder of Ace of Fades 212. “They didn’t have the money. They didn’t have jobs. They were struggling. I realized I could do something about that.”
Expanding Access to Cancer Patients
Beyond the youth program, Monje envisions establishing a foundation to provide free hair system solutions to young cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. Cancer-related hair loss can be a deeply distressing experience, impacting a patient’s self-image and social well-being. Monje believes that hair systems should be considered a part of the healing process, not a luxury.
“My goal is to make this free for kids with cancer,” Monje explained. “A child shouldn’t have to choose between fighting cancer and feeling like themselves. Hair systems should be part of their healing journey, not a luxury they can’t access. That’s the foundation I want to build.”
The Psychological Impact of Hair Loss
The initiative reflects a growing awareness of the psychological impact of hair loss, particularly during formative years. Untreated hair loss can contribute to anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal, with effects that can persist into adulthood. Restoring a young person’s appearance can significantly boost their confidence and encourage social engagement.
Ace of Fades 212: Serving the New York and New Jersey Area
Ace of Fades 212 currently serves clients in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and nearby New Jersey communities, including Hoboken and Jersey City. The youth program is available immediately, and families can schedule consultations to discuss customized hair system options.
Monje emphasizes that this initiative is a way to deliver back to the New York and New Jersey communities that have supported his business. “This is about community,” he said. “New York and New Jersey made Ace of Fades 212 what it is. Now it’s time to give back to the kids who are suffering, to the families struggling to help them, and eventually to young cancer patients who deserve to feel whole during their treatment.”
