The Power of Remembering
After the passing of my grandmother I kept the tradition of baking her famous apple pie alive. Pie was a huge part of how she showed her love to others. every time I bake her recipe, it’s like she is still right beside me in the kitchen.
Finding Strength in Community Groups
Losing my father made me want to withdraw from the world but attending a bereavement support group helped me tremendously for these three reasons.
- Sharing stories in a safe space gave a sense of validation.
- I gained some coping strategies from other grievers.
- I discovered the most important is remembering that you’re not alone in your grief.
The Healing Power of Creativity
I turned the sadness into writing poetry which at the time was uncharacteristic for me. by putting emotions into words and verses, it was a healthy outlet helping me process my emotions and turn them into beauty.
