Driver Killed in Three-Semi Crash on Ohio Turnpike in Ottawa County
HARRIS TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A truck driver was killed Sunday morning in a three-vehicle crash involving commercial tractor-trailers on the Ohio Turnpike in Ottawa County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. On I-80/90 eastbound near milepost 78 in Harris Township, west of Elmore. Two commercial vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lanes due to a previous crash when a third truck approached and collided with one of the stopped semis, pushing it into another.
The driver of the approaching vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name pending notification of next of kin. The drivers of the other two vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for an extended period as crews worked to clear the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
