Alex Thompson’s career in baseball began with a single letter, marking the start of a journey that would shape his professional life and leave a lasting impact on the sport. Growing up in Montgomery County, Thompson was no stranger to the game, attending games and developing a passion that would define his future.
The Genesis of a Career
As a Brandeis University freshman, Thompson took the bold step of writing to Big Train founder Bruce Adams. This initiative led to an internship with Big Train during the 2001 season, a decision that would prove pivotal. “I knew that I wanted to have some sort of career in baseball or associated with baseball,” Thompson recalled. “I was working toward a more active career in that direction.”

Thompson’s dedication quickly set him apart. Over five seasons, he transitioned from intern to assistant general manager and eventually to general manager. His role involved managing the day-to-day operations at Povich Field, including organizing in-game promotions and handling administrative tasks. “It was very crazy and fun. It was awesome,” he said, reflecting on his time with the organization.
