One Piece: Weakest Warlords of the Sea, Ranked

The Declining Power of the Seven Warlords of the Sea in One Piece

For a long time, the Seven Warlords of the Sea (Shichibukai) were considered among the strongest pirates in One Piece. However, as the series progresses, some Warlords have failed to maintain their initial reputations, raising questions about the system’s effectiveness and the true measure of strength within the Grand Line. Several former Warlords have demonstrated a decline in power, struggling against newer, stronger adversaries.

Donquixote Doflamingo: A Powerful Villain Outpaced by Powercreep

Donquixote Doflamingo remains a fan-favorite villain and a well-written character, but his strength has diminished relative to newer power levels in One Piece. Despite possessing all three types of Haki and an Awakened Devil Fruit, his defeat by Gear 4 Luffy exposed his vulnerabilities. Luffy, after defeating Doflamingo, was able to defeat Cracker, considered the weakest commander of the Yonko, and Jack the Drought was deemed stronger than Doflamingo by Kaido.

Jinbe: From Promising Recruit to Overwhelmed Straw Hat

Initially, Jinbe was a formidable force, even clashing with characters like Mihawk and Akainu and briefly holding off Big Mom. However, since joining the Straw Hat Pirates, his performance has been underwhelming. While he defeated Who’s Who, it wasn’t a particularly impactful victory. In the Egghead Arc, Jinbe was relegated to carrying boxes while other Straw Hats battled Admirals and powerful opponents. More recently, during the Elbaf Arc, Jinbe was easily captured by Gunko, while Brook managed to block an attack from Imu in Gunko’s body. His backstory reveals he struggled against a younger Ace, further highlighting his relative weakness compared to other Warlords.

Gecko Moria: A Fallen Force

Gecko Moria is widely considered the weakest of the original Warlords. He lost to a Luffy who had just developed Gear 2 and Gear 3. While Moria was once a rival to Kaido, his defeat broke his spirit, and he became overly reliant on his Devil Fruit. Despite the potential of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit, Jinbe was able to inflict significant damage to Moria with a single attack during the Marineford Arc.

Hanafuda: A Forgotten Warlord

Hanafuda was a Warlord prior to the main events of the series, and little is known about him. He was defeated by a weaker version of Portgas D. Ace and was ultimately killed by random pirates after losing his Warlord status. He is the father of Ulti and Page One, both of whom are stronger than he was.

Buggy the Clown: A Product of Misconceptions

Buggy the Clown is arguably the weakest pirate to ever hold the title of Warlord. He received his position due to his influence, widespread misconceptions about his abilities, and the World Government’s misjudgment of his power. Buggy lacks Haki and his Devil Fruit ability, while not useless, is significantly weaker than many others. He lost to Luffy early in the series and has shown little growth since then.

The decline in power of several former Warlords raises questions about the criteria for selection and the overall effectiveness of the system. As One Piece continues, it’s clear that strength and influence are constantly evolving, and some of the original Warlords have been left behind.
