You can see the One UI 8.5 branding in the phone’s Software update screen and that Samsung has shaken things up a bit as to how the software update section appears. It frist shows the current One UI version, while the ‘Check for updates’ section is at the bottom of the screen.
Currently, you had to navigate to Settings » Software update » Download and install to check for a new software update.
Samsung’s Galaxy Store and Studio App Get Visual Refresh with One UI 8.5
Samsung is rolling out visual updates to two of its core apps – the Galaxy Store and Studio – as part of the One UI 8.5 update. These changes aim to modernize the user experience and offer a more streamlined interface.
The Galaxy Store now features a new splash screen dominated by a large paintbrush icon, hinting at the creative possibilities within. The app itself is organized into two main sections: Gallery and My Stuff. Navigation is handled through four distinct tabs: Themes, Backgrounds, Wallpapers, and AODs (Always On Display).
Meanwhile, the built-in video editing app, Studio, is adopting a more compact navigation bar similar to the recent redesign of the Phone app. This change maximizes screen real estate for content viewing and creation. Studio also gains a new tab: Stories, expanding its functionality beyond basic video editing. Previously, the app featured only three tabs in One UI 8.0.
One UI 8.5 Device Care Sees Notable UI redesign
Samsung’s One UI 8.5, currently rolling out to compatible devices, brings a notable visual overhaul to the Device Care section. The update introduces wider bars for displaying key system facts like memory, storage, and battery levels, accompanied by percentage figures for clearer understanding. Additionally, the device condition indicator has shifted from an emoji-based portrayal in one UI 8.0 to a text-based display in the latest version.
Changes to Device Information Display
The most immediately noticeable change is the redesigned interface for monitoring device health. Previously, the Device Care section in One UI 8.0 utilized bars alongside an emoji to indicate the overall condition of the device. https://www.sammobile.com/news/one-ui-8-5-device-care-redesign/ One UI 8.5 replaces this with significantly wider bars that visually represent the usage of system resources.
These wider bars now prominently display the percentage of used/available space or charge, offering users a more precise and easily digestible view of their device’s status. Such as, the battery bar will show not just a fill level, but also the exact percentage remaining. Similarly, storage and memory usage are presented with both a visual bar and a numerical percentage.
Emoji Replaced with Text
Another key alteration is the removal of the emoji used to represent the device’s overall condition. In one UI 8.0, a smiling or frowning emoji provided a fast visual cue.One UI 8.5 replaces this with descriptive text, likely providing a more explicit explanation of the device’s health status. while the specific text used hasn’t been detailed, this change aims for greater clarity and removes potential ambiguity associated with interpreting an emoji.
This redesign in Device Care reflects Samsung’s ongoing efforts to refine the One UI experience, focusing on improved usability and information clarity for its users. The changes aim to provide a more intuitive and informative overview of device health and resource management.
