Italian School Integrates Music Event Production into Curriculum
Oristano, Italy – The Benedetto Croce teaching institute is pioneering a unique educational approach by integrating the practicalities of live music event production into its curriculum. A collaborative project with the cultural association County, the initiative offers students firsthand experience in the multifaceted world of concert organization.
Hands-on Learning Beyond the Stage
The program, designed for a musical high school class, extends beyond musical performance to encompass the organizational, technical, and administrative aspects of staging a live event. Students will explore areas such as creative reuse of materials for scenography, promotional video production, and the essential roles of various event professionals.
Navigating the Regulatory Landscape
A key component of the course focuses on the often-overlooked bureaucratic and administrative side of event management. Students will learn about the regulatory processes required for event authorization and the importance of building a sustainable event history. Luca Pinna, president of the County association, emphasizes the complexity and fundamental nature of this operate.
Exploring Career Paths in Live Music
The project aims to familiarize students with the diverse range of professions within the live music industry, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application. Students will analyze the County association’s fifteen years of experience, particularly their Rock in County music competition, examining event conception, planning, logistics, and artist relations.
Practical Workshops and Site Visits
The curriculum includes a practical laboratory dedicated to scenographic design, led by a professional artist. Students will also visit County’s headquarters in Oristano, observing the stage, technical equipment, and event spaces, gaining a concrete understanding of the organizational infrastructure. The location also houses the association’s historic truck bar, where the organization began.
Project Outcomes and Future Applications
Culminating in an individual report and proposals for future musical or cultural events, the project – titled “Organisation, production and communication of a public entertainment event: from planning to restitution” – runs from February 28th to June. Students will apply their acquired knowledge to develop innovative event concepts.
