MIT Professor’s Murder Linked to Brown University Shooting

Brookline, Mass. – Latest details have emerged regarding the murder of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Nuno Loureiro, 47, who was shot and killed at his home in Brookline on December 15, 2025. Investigations have linked his death to Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, 48, a Portuguese national who committed a mass shooting at Brown University two days prior.

The Attack on Nuno Loureiro

According to police reports released by the Brookline Police Department, the attack occurred shortly after 8:33 p.m. At Loureiro’s residence on Gibbs Street. The doorbell rang repeatedly, and when Loureiro went to investigate, he was shot multiple times in the chest, abdomen, and legs. Loureiro’s 12-year-ancient daughter briefly opened the apartment door before her father intervened and provided a description of the assailant to police. The suspect was described as a male, believed to be of Indian descent, in his mid-30s, approximately 5’8”–6’0” tall with a medium build. He was wearing a yellow reflective vest, dark blue clothing, and a winter hat, and was carrying what appeared to be an 11-by-11-inch cardboard package. Boston 25 News

The suspect fled in a blue or gray Nissan sedan, speeding down Gibbs Street toward Stedman Street. Surveillance footage captured the vehicle with its headlights off, traveling through multiple towns west of Boston, including Brighton, Allston, Watertown, and Waltham. Connection to Brown University Shooting

Authorities identified Claudio Manuel Neves Valente as the perpetrator of both the murder of Nuno Loureiro and the mass shooting at Brown University on December 13, 2025, where two students were killed and nine others injured.
