Tropical Depression Forms East of Mindanao, Kristine Still Present Over Pangasinan
A low-pressure area (LPA) east of northeastern Mindanao has strengthened into a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 10 p.m., the tropical depression, formerly known as LPA 2,405 km east of northeastern Mindanao, was packing winds of up to 55 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was moving north-northwest at 35 kph.
Another LPA, approximately 2,265 km east of northeastern Mindanao, is being monitored by PAGASA but is not expected to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
This development comes as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine continues to track over the coastal waters of Bolinao, Pangasinan. Kristine is currently packing winds of up to 95 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 145 kph. The storm is moving slowly south-southwest.
