Pakistan and Bangladesh Strengthen Ties, Reaffirm Support for Palestine
Islamabad and Dhaka have signaled a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating efforts on regional and international issues, including the ongoing crisis in Palestine. Recent high-level discussions between Pakistani and Bangladeshi officials underscore a shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Diplomatic Engagements
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar recently held a telephone conversation with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations. During the call, Dar congratulated Dr. Rahman on his recent appointment as Foreign Minister. Both leaders expressed their determination to further strengthen the existing bond between Pakistan and Bangladesh, and to advance a shared vision of peace and stability in the region. They also agreed to increase cooperation across various sectors and at multilateral forums.
Prior to the phone call, Dar met with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in New York on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council meeting. Dar thanked Cooper for convening an important session focused on Palestine. The two leaders reviewed the state of Pakistan-United Kingdom relations and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration in multiple sectors. Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral collaboration and enhance people-to-people contacts, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement and coordination at the United Nations.
Pakistan’s Stance on Palestine
Pakistan has consistently voiced its strong support for the Palestinian cause and has called for accountability regarding the situation in the region. Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved without justice and accountability.
