Pakistan and China Strengthen CPEC Collaboration, Focus on Upgraded Version 2.0

Islamabad, Pakistan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), particularly the advancement of its second phase with a focus on key areas such as agriculture, industrial cooperation, and priority infrastructure projects. This commitment was underscored during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, in Islamabad on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Economic Support and Regional Stability

Sharif expressed appreciation for China’s consistent economic support for Pakistan. Discussions also covered the regional situation, with the Prime Minister highlighting Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation and regional stability. He emphasized the importance of continued close coordination at all levels on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming the enduring “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between Pakistan and China.

Commemorating Diplomatic Ties and “Two Sessions”

The Prime Minister extended congratulations to the Chinese leadership on the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions,” China’s most critical annual political meetings. He conveyed gratitude to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their warm greetings on Pakistan Day.

China’s Continued Support and Investment

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong commended Pakistan’s economic resilience and reform efforts, reaffirming China’s continued support, particularly in trade and investment. Both sides expressed satisfaction with ongoing exchanges and anticipate high-level engagements to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

CPEC 2.0 and Future Collaboration

This renewed commitment builds upon previous agreements to develop an upgraded version of CPEC, often referred to as CPEC 2.0. In September 2025, Prime Minister Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang agreed to work closely on this next phase, which includes five new corridors. The focus will be on deepening cooperation in fields such as agriculture, mining, energy, aviation, aerospace, information technology, and infrastructure development.

Ensuring Safety and Security

Pakistan has also emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel and projects within the country.

The ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and China signifies the strength of their strategic partnership and their shared vision for economic growth and regional stability.
