Luzon on High Alert as Tropical Storm Kristine Approaches

The Philippine government has announced the suspension of work and classes in all levels across Luzon on Wednesday, August 23rd, in anticipation of the impact of Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Government Offices to Remain Operational

The decision to suspend work and classes was made upon the recommendation of the Office of Civil Defense and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. However, those agencies responsible for delivering basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital functions will remain operational.

The Office of the Executive Secretary clarified that private companies and offices have the discretion to determine whether or not to suspend work.

Tropical Storm Kristine’s Path and Intensity

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Tropical Storm Kristine was last spotted 390 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 80 kph.

Moving westward at 15 km/h, Kristine is projected to make landfall over Isabela as a severe tropical storm on Wednesday evening.

With the approaching storm, it’s crucial to stay informed about the latest weather updates and follow the advice of local authorities.
